Lightspeed Retail X Series has the ability for you to scan or manually enter barcodes that have either the price or weight of products embedded into them from an external scale/label printer.
You are able to choose either embedded price barcodes or embedded weight barcodes in Lightspeed Retail X Series and that choice is across the whole platform.
The two type of barcodes that are supported are UPC-A and EAN 13. You will need to check with your vendor for your scale/label printer to make sure that this is setup correctly.
Lightspeed Retail X Series does not generate or print the embedded barcodes.
The SKUs for products in your scale/label printer must be setup to match the Primary SKUs for the products in LSX. You will need to check with your vendor for your scale/label printer to make sure that this is setup correctly.

- "2" - Defines that this is a price/weight embedded barcode.
- "10000" - Primary SKU of the product in LSX.
- "08000" - Embedded price of the product in LSX that is "$80.00".

Configure LSX to use Embedded Price or Weight Barcodes
- Log into Lightspeed Retail X Series.
- In the left hand window pane, click "Setup".
- In the main window pane, scroll down until you get to the section named "Barcode and SKU settings".
- Decide if you want to use barcodes with embedded prices or embedded weight. Please note that you can only choose one and this will take effect across the entire LSX account and locations.
- In the section named "LABELS AND BARCODES", click the dropdown box named "Embedded barcodes" and choose either "Allow barcodes with embedded price" or "Allow barcodes with embedded weight".
- Once you have made your choice, click "Save changes" in the upper right corner.
Configure a Product in LSX for Embedded Price/Weight
- In the left hand window pane, click "Catalog".
- In the main window pane, search for your product and edit it by clicking the pencil icon.
- The product that we selected is named "Filet" and has a retail price of $52.99 per pound. Please note that the retail price needs to be configured in the product so that you can manually search for and sell the item without having a weighed and barcoded printed from your scale/label printer and have it correctly calculate the price if you change the quantity/weight.
- In the main window pane, scroll down until you get to the section named "Inventory".
- If we look at the section named "SKU CODES", we will see that this product has a Primary SKU of "10000" that is 5 digits in length.
- Since the Primary SKU for the product in LSX is 5 digits in length and does not have any leading zeroes, nothing would need to be done to it.
- However, if the Primary SKU for the product in LSX is less than 5 digits in length, it must not have any leading zeroes as shown below.
- This product in LSX is properly configured to use price/weight embedded barcodes. Please note that no additional barcodes are required in LSX for embedded price/weight.
- We will use the price embedded barcode shown below to ring up a sale.
- In the left hand window pane, click "Sell".
- In the main window pane, look for the search window and either scan the embedded price/weight barcode or manually enter the barcode number into that search bar.
- In this example, the barcode is either scanned or manually entered is "210000080005" and we will see that it adds the product named "Filet" to the sale and that the price from the barcode is "$80.00".
- Please note that when you scan embedded price/weight barcodes into LSX to sell, the quantity will always be "1" since it is a single product and the price/weight is already printed on the barcode that was generated from the scale/label printer.
- If we were to manually search for the same product by its name of "Filet", we will see that it rings up at the retail price of $52.99 per pound.
- If we were to scan another barcode from the scale/label printer for the same product but the embedded price is "$29.94", you will see that LSX will show the retail price for the product which is $52.99 per pound with it struck through and then show the embedded price of "$29.94" to show that LSX is not using the retail price of "$52.99" per pound since the embedded price is less than 1 pound.
