What is the "Primary User"?
- Only the Primary User can edit their own account details
- If someone else needs to change Primary User details, they'll need to contact Billing Support
- Think of it as the foundational account that everything else builds from - it's your original login that started the whole account.
How to Locate/Confirm the Primary User
-
In Lightspeed R-Series, navigate to:
Settings
Employee Setup
Because more than one employee may be listed as an Owner, you must open individual employee profiles with the owner role to confirm the Primary User.
Click on an employee’s name.
Open the Details section.
If the employee is the Primary User, you will see a notice stating that this user cannot be modified.
Important Notes
Multiple employees can have the Owner role.
The Primary User is the only Owner account that cannot be edited.
Other employees with the Owner role can be edited, provided the user making changes has the appropriate permissions.
How to Update the Primary Account User
*This applies to LSR POS Primary User and Billing User only. It will not impact the actual account ownership/entity or banking details.
Contact Lightspeed Billing to Create a Support Case
- Email billing@lightspeedhq.com from either the current primary account user's email or the new primary account user's email address (current owner's email address is preferred when possible and requires less documentation).
- Include the new primary user's name and email
- Clearly state if this update is for the Primary Account User, Billing User, or both.
- Be prepared to provide proof of account ownership if requested.
Lightspeed may require proof of ownership or signing authority for the business if the email is not sent from the current Primary User's email.
Acceptable documents include, but are not limited to:
- Tax returns
- Business licenses
- Agreements
- Utility bills related to the business
Please ensure these documents clearly display the following:
- The business name
- The owner's or authorized signatory's name and signature
These requirements are in place to ensure the security and integrity of your account.
How to Update Email Address, Ownership, Banking Details, and Legal Entity
*These changes will NOT impact the Primary User or Billing User in LSR POS/back end. See above if this is what you're looking to change.
While these important changes are to be securely made within your account, if you do not have the proper access to obtain the security code via email, you will need to contact Lightspeed Payments. Once the email is updated, you will be redirected to update the information in your account.
