Before we start, you will first need to download and install the latest version of the Zebra Setup Utilities and install the Zebra label printer on the workstation that you wish to print labels from. In this example, we will be using a Zebra LP 2824+ label printer.
Each label size that you wish to print to will need to have its own separate printer definition created in Windows. We will walk through making the necessary configurations for one size (1.5" x 1") and then show you how to create an additional printer definition and change the name and size accordingly.
This article will be performed on Windows 11 for reference and the Zebra Setup Utilities have already been installed and a printer definition for a Zebra LP 2824+ has already been created.
- Right click the Windows button and then click "Run".
- In the text box enter "shell:::{A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A}" and then click "OK".
- This will open the "Devices and Printers" section that used to be in the "Control Panel".
- As you can see, there is a printer definition named "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL)".
- We are now going to determine the virtual USB port that this printer is installed on.
- Right click the printer definition for the "ZDesigner LP 8224 Plus (ZPL)" and then click "Printer properties".
- In the window for the printer definition, click the tab named "Ports".
- in the window in the middle, scroll down until you see the virtual USB port that is selected for this label printer and make note of it. In this example, it is virtual USB port named "USB001". This virtual port will be needed when making additional printer definitions for other label sizes.
- Click "Cancel" to close this window.
- Right click the printer definition for the "ZDesigner LP 8224 Plus (ZPL)" and then click "Printing preferences".
- We will be taken to the tab named "Options" and see that the printer definition's dimensions are set to 2.25" wide by 1.25" high as shown below.
- We will change the width to "1.5", the height to "1.00", and then click "Save" to save the changes.
- Right click the printer definition for the "ZDesigner LP 8224 Plus (ZPL)" and then click "Printer properties".
- In the tab named "General", change the name of the printer definition to include the dimensions of the label size this will be used for, and then click "OK" to save the changes. In this example the printer definition will be renamed "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) - 1.5" x 1".
- We have now configured this printer definition for printing labels that are 1.5" x 1" in size.
- We will now go through the process of creating an additional printer definition that will be another sized label. In this example they will be 1.25" x 1" in size.
- Close the older "Devices and printers" program by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner.
- Right click the "Windows" button and then click "Settings".
- In the left hand window pane, click "Bluetooth & devices".
- In the main window pane, click "Printers & scanners".
- In the main window pane, click "Add device".
- Wait until it shows an option named "The print that I want isn't listed" and then click "Add manually".
- In the window named "Add Printer", click "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings", and then click "Next".
- Click the option named "Use an existing port".
- Click the drop down box for the port and select the virtual port that was determined in step #8. In this example the virtual port is named "USB001".
- Click "Next".
- In the window named "Manufacturer", scroll down until you get to the listing named "ZDesigner" and select it.
- In the window named "Printers", scroll down until you get to the listing named "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL)" with the most current date and select it. In this example it is named "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) 5.1.17.7412".
- Click "Next".
- Click the option named "Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)" and then click "Next".
- Change the name of the new printer definition that matches the size of the labels that this one will print and then click "Next". In this example, the new printer definition will be named "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) - 1.25" x 1".
- Click the option named "Do not share this printer" and then click "Next".
- Click "Finish".
- Close "Printers & scanners" by clicking the "X" button in the upper right corner of the program.
- Right click the Windows button and then click "Run".
- In the text box enter "shell:::{A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A}" and then click "OK".
- This will open the "Devices and Printers" section that used to be in the "Control Panel".
- Right click the printer definition named "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) - 1.25" x 1", then hover over "Printing preferences" and then click "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) - 1.25" x 1".
- We will be taken to the tab named "Options" and see that the printer definition's dimensions are set to 2.20" wide by 2.00" high as shown below.
- We will change the width to "1.25", the height to "1.00", and then click "Save" to save the changes.
- Close the older "Devices and printers" program by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner.
- If you have any other label sizes that you need to use, please repeat steps 18 through 41 and name the printer definition accordingly based upon the size of the labels.
- Log into Lightspeed Retail (X-Series).
- In the left hand window pane, click "Catalog".
- In the "Products" window, click the product that you would like to print labels for.
- Click "Print Label".
- Select the number of labels that you wish to print and then change the "Label type" to "Continuous feed" and then click "Next".
- Click "Print".
- In the print preview, click the printer definition that you wish to print to. In this example it will be a "ZDesigner LP 2824 Plus (ZPL) - Hang Tag 2.25" x 1.25" and then click "Print".
- You are now able to print labels in Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) using either a LP 2824 Plus, ZD410 or ZD411 label printer.
