How to Install, Configure and Test a Zebra Wireless Print Server in a ZD411 Label Printer

This article will walk you through installing, configuring and testing a Zebra Wireless Print Server with part number P1112640-017A into a Zebra ZD411 label printer.

The parts needed for this installation are listed below.

  • Zebra ZD411 label printer with power adapter

  • Zebra Wireless Print Server part number P1112640-017A that includes the expansion module

  • USB A to USB B cable
  1. Turn the label printer off by pressing and holding the power button for a couple of seconds.
  2. Lay the label printer on its face so that you are looking at the rear of the label printer as shown below.

  1. Unplug the power cable from the rear of the label printer.

  1. Once the power cable has been unplugged, the rear of the label printer will look like this.

  1. Lay the ZD411 label printer on its top so that you are looking at the bottom of the unit.

  1. Remove the expansion cover shown below by either using a small, flat screwdriver or your fingernail.

  1. Once the expansion cover has been removed, the bottom of the printer will look like this.

  1. Take the Zebra Wireless Print Server expansion module as shown below and insert it into the expansion slot on the bottom of the printer and press the silver square part down gently until you here the module snap into place.

  1. Once inserted, the expansion slot will now look like this.

  1. Put the expansion slot cover back on.

  1. Plug the power cable back into the power port on the rear of the label printer.

  1. Plug the USB B end of the USB A to USB B cable into the USB B port on the rear of the label printer.

  1. Plug the USB A end of the USB A to USB B cable into an available USB A port on the workstation you want to use the ZD411 label printer on.
  2. Flip the label printer onto its fee in its normal position.

  1. Download the Windows drivers for the Zebra ZD411 label printer by clicking here and then clicking the button named "Download" under the section for "Zebra Setup Utilities for Windows".

  1. Click the box for the option named "I agree to and accept the above terms and conditions." and then click the button named "DOWNLOAD".

  1. Once the download has completed, run the installer by clicking on it.

  1. You may be presented with a User Account Control prompt, if so click "Yes".

  1. Click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the box for "I accept the terms of the license agreement" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the box named "I have read the information above" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the box named "Run Zebra Setup Utilities now" and then click "Finish".

  1. Make sure that the option named "USB (Universal Serial Bus)" is checked and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Power the tag printer on by pressing and holding the power button for about 5 seconds and then release the power button.

  1. Once the label printer has finished powering on, you should see the status light lit green.
  2. Click the button named "Finish".

  1. You will now see that a printer definition for the Zebra ZD411 label printer connected via USB has been created as shown below.

  1. Select the Zebra ZD411 label printer definition in the "Printers" window and then click the button named "Configure Printer Connectivity".

  1. Click the option named "Wireless" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the option named "Static", the enter the appropriate IP Settings information as needed for the ZD411 label pritner.  In this example, the IP Address will be "192.168.22.240", the Subnet mask will be "255.255.255.0" and the Default gateway will be "192.168.22.1".

  1. Leave the option named "Band" set to its default of "2.4 GHz & 5 GHz".

  1. Click down the drop down box for the option named "WLAN Country", then select "USA, Canada" and then click "Next".

  1. In the option named ""ESSID", enter the name of your wireless network that this label printer will connect to.

  1. Click the drop down box for the option named "Security mode", then select "WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. For the option named "PSK Type", click the type named "String" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. In the field named "PSK name" enter the password for the wireless network that the label printer will connect to and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the button named "Next".

  1. Make sure that the option named "Printer" is selected and then click the button named "Finish".

  1. Once the configuration has been sent to the label printer and it has connected to the wireless network, you should see both the status light and network status light both lit green as shown below.

  1. In the Zebra Setup Utilities, we will now need to uninstall the initial printer definition for the label printer that was originally connected via USB.
  2. Select the ZDesigner ZD411 label printer in the "Printers" section and then click the button named "Uninstall Printer".

  1. You will now see no label printers installed.  Click the button named "Install New Printer".

  1. Click the button named "Next".

  1. Click "Install Printer".

  1. Click the radio button for the option named "I accept the terms in the license agreement" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Select the printer named "ZDesigner ZD411-203spi ZPL" and then click the button named "Next".

  1. Click the button named "Add Port...".

  1. In the field named "Port Name", enter the static IP address that was configured for the label printer.  In this example, the static IP address is "192.168.22.240".

  1. In the field named "Printer Name or IP Address", enter the static IP address that was configured for the label printer.  In this example, the static IP address is "192.168.22.240".

  1. You will now see that the port that is configured for the ZD411 label printer is named "LAN 192.168.22.240".  Click the button named "Next".

  1. Unlick the box for the option named "Launch installation of Zebra Font Downloader Setup Wizard" and then click the box named "Finish".

  1. You will now see a new printer definition for the ZD411 label printer in the Zebra Setup Wizard and you can click the button named "Close" to close the Zebra Setup Wizard.

The configuration of the Zebra Wireless Print Server and installation and configuration of the printer definition and driver in Windows has now been completed.
