Install Star TSP100 receipt printer (Windows 7 and higher)

  1. You will need to download and save the driver for the receipt printer at the following webpage here.
  2. Once the file has downloaded, you will need to extract the contents of the file by right clicking on the file and then clicking “Extract All”.
  3. When you are prompted to Select a Destination and Extract Files, leave the folder to the default location, make sure that the option for “Show extracted files when complete” is checked and then click Extract.
  4. Once the files have been extracted, first go into the folder named “Windows” and then the folder named “Installer”.
  5. From there you will need to open the appropriate installer that is based upon what bit level of Windows is installed on your workstation.
    1. If the workstation is running a 32 bit version of Windows, please open the file named “Setup.exe”
    2. If the workstation is running a 64 bit version of Windows, please open the file named “Setup_x64.exe”
  6. Should you have a “User Account Control” window pop up asking “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes?” for either setup_x86 or setup_x64, click Yes.
  7. In the window named “Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for TSP100 Setup Version X.XX”, click Next.
  8. In the window named “Customer Information”, you may enter your information if you choose to do so, and then click Next.
  9. In the window named “Setup Type”, please make sure that the option named “Typical” is selected and then click Next.
  10. In the window named “Ready to Install the Program”, click on Install.
  11. You may be prompted by a window named “Open File – Security Warning”, if you are prompted please click Run.
  12. In the window named “InstallShield Wizard Completed”, click on Finish.
  13. Unpack and install the printer by loading receipt paper into the printer and then plugging in all three cables (power, USB cable and cash drawer cable).
    1. The cash drawer cable will look like a phone cable and each end will be labeled either “to printer” or “to cash drawer”.
    2. Please plug the end of the cash drawer cable that says “to printer” into the port named “DK” on the back of the receipt printer and then plug the end of the cash drawer cable that says “to cash drawer” into the port on the back of the cash drawer.  The cash drawer cable will only work one way.
    3. Plug the USB cable into an available USB port on the workstation.
  14. Windows will automatically install the driver for the Star TSP100 receipt printer.  Once the driver has finished installing, Windows will notify you that the device is now ready to use.
  15. In QuickBooks Point of Sale, go into the Hardware Setup Wizard under the File menu.
  16. Click on Receipt Printer in the left hand window pane.
  17. In the right hand windows pane, scroll down in the listing of already installed and setup printers until you see “Star TSP 100 Cutter (TSP143)”, click that printer and then click Next.
  18. At this point, you may choose to print a test page to the receipt printer.  If you want to print a test page, please make sure that your receipt paper is loaded properly in the receipt printer.  If you do not want to print a test page, please click Leave.
    1. Make sure that the printer listed is the “Star TSP 100 Cutter (TSP143)” printer.
    2. Then click the button named “Print a Test Page”.
  19. The application will print a test receipt for you.  If the test receipt printed properly, please click Test Successful.  If the test receipt did not print properly or at all, please contact Individual Point of Sale at (570)906-8598 option #3 for support.
  20. While you are still in the Hardware Setup Wizard, please click on Cash Drawer in the left hand window pane.
  21. In the Receipt Printer drop down box in the right hand window pane, please choose the printer named “Star TSP 100 Cutter (TSP143).
  22. In the Cash Drawer Connection drop down box in the right hand window pane, please make sure that the entry named “Connected through Star TSP100/600/700 Series” is selected.
  23. If you want to test the cash drawer functionality, you may click on the button named “Test the Cash Drawer”.
  24. When you click the button, the receipt printer will send a command via the cash drawer cable for the cash drawer to pop open.
    1. If the cash drawer opened properly, please click The Drawer Opened and then click Leave.
    2. If the cash drawer does not open when you click the button, please make sure that you have the cash drawer cable connected properly between the receipt printer and the cash drawer.  The cable will only work one way.  If the cash drawer did not open, please contact Individual Point of Sale at (570)906-8598 option #3 for support.

Note:  If you ever need to disconnect the receipt printer from your workstation, you MUST reconnect the receipt printer to the same USB port that it was originally installed on.  If you do not do this, you will not be able to print to the receipt printer in Point of Sale without additional support.
