This article will show you how to setup an Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer with an iPad via either USB or Bluetooth and then use it with either Lightspeed Retail R Series or X Series in the iPad apps.
At this point in time, the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is not able to use Bluetooth as the communication method with the iPad and the Lightspeed Retail X Series app, so it will be using USB for both charging of the iPad and communication for printing receipts.
This article will first walk you through making the connection from the Epson TM-M30IIH receipt printer to the iPad using either USB or Bluetooth.
After the initial connection has been made between the receipt printer and the iPad, we will then walk you through setting up the receipt printer in both the Lightspeed Retail R Series app and the Lightspeed Retail X Series app.
USB Connection between Receipt Printer and iPad
You will need the below items to connect your Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer to your iPad via USB.
- Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer
- Epson power adapter
- AC power cable
- USB A to Lightning cable or USB A to USB C cable (depending upon the model of iPad you have)
- Roll of thermal receipt paper

- We will need to remove the rear plastic cover on the receipt printer. Place the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the back.
- Gently pry the rear cover of the receipt printer away. Once it has been removed the rear of the receipt printer will look like this.
- Next we will need to remove the bottom cover for the receipt printer. Place the receipt printer on its top so that you are looking at it from the bottom.
- Gently pry the bottom cover of the receipt printer away. Once it has been removed the bottom of the receipt printer will look like this.
- Take the connector end of the Epson power adapter and plug it into the circular port named "24V" as shown below.
- Plug the AC power cable into the Epson power adapter and then plug the other end of the AC cable into an electrical outlet.
- Plug the USB A end of the USB A to Lightning cable into the white USB port named "iPad 2.1A".
- Place the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the back. Guide the power adapter cable and USB A to Lightning cable to the middle of the receipt printer and then reattach the rear cover on the receipt printer.
- Flip the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the bottom and then reattach the bottom cover on the receipt printer.
- Place the receipt printer right side up and then open the lid by lifting up the release latch on the lid.
- With the lid open, insert a roll of thermal receipt paper into the receipt printer as shown below and then close the lid.
- Plug the Lightning cable end of the USB A to Lightning cable into the Lightning port on your iPad.
- Turn on the receipt printer by pressing and releasing the power button on the top of the receipt printer.
- Now that the receipt printer has been turned on, it will charge the iPad via the USB A to Lightning cable.
- The receipt printer is now directly connected to the iPad for both charging and receipt printing functionalities.
Bluetooth Connection between Receipt Printer and iPad
- We will need to remove the rear plastic cover on the receipt printer. Place the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the back.
- Gently pry the rear cover of the receipt printer away. Once it has been removed the rear of the receipt printer will look like this.
- Next we will need to remove the bottom cover for the receipt printer. Place the receipt printer on its top so that you are looking at it from the bottom.
- Gently pry the bottom cover of the receipt printer away. Once it has been removed the bottom of the receipt printer will look like this.
- Take the connector end of the Epson power adapter and plug it into the circular port named "24V" as shown below.
- Plug the AC power cable into the Epson power adapter and then plug the other end of the AC cable into an electrical outlet.
- Place the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the back. Guide the power adapter cable and USB A to Lightning cable to the middle of the receipt printer and then reattach the rear cover on the receipt printer.
- Flip the receipt printer on its front so that you are looking at it from the bottom and then reattach the bottom cover on the receipt printer.
- Place the receipt printer right side up and then open the lid by lifting up the release latch on the lid.
- With the lid open, insert a roll of thermal receipt paper into the receipt printer as shown below and then close the lid.
- Turn on the receipt printer by pressing and releasing the power button on the top of the receipt printer.
- Wait until the receipt printer has finished powering on and has a lit power status light in the left hand corner of the printer status area.
- On the iPad that the receipt printer will be connected to via Bluetooth, open the Settings app from the Home screen.
- In the left hand window pane, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. If it is not turned on, please turn Bluetooth on.
- In the main window pane under the section named "Other Devices", you should see a listing for an Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer as show below.
- Tap the listed Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer in the main window pane to start the Bluetooth pairing between the iPad and the receipt printer.
- Once the Bluetooth pairing has been completed, you will now see that the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is now listed under the section named "My Devices" and the status is listed as "Connected" as shown below.
- The Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is now successfully paired with the iPad via Bluetooth.
Configuring the Epson TM-M30II-H Receipt Printer in Lightspeed Retail R Series (USB or Bluetooth)
- From the Home screen on your iPad, open the Lightspeed Retail R Series app.
- Log into Lightspeed Retail R Series with your credentials.
- In the section named "Devices", tap "Receipt Printer".
- In the window named "Receipt printer", tap "Add printer".
- You will now see that the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is listed. Tap the listing for the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer.
- You will now see that the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is the default printer. If you would like it to automatically print a receipt at the completion of each sale, enable the option named "Automatically print receipt".
- Tap "Done" to save the changes.
- You will be taken back to the main menu and you can now see that under the section named "Devices", that the Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is connected and ready to be used in the Lightspeed Retail R Series app.
Configuring the Epson TM-M30II-H Receipt Printer in Lightspeed Retail X Series (USB only)
- From the Home screen on your iPad, open the Lightspeed Retail X Series app.
- Log into Lightspeed Retail X Series with your credentials.
- Select the register that you will be using if one is not already open.
- From the main window pane, tap the menu button in the upper left hand corner.
- In the left hand window pane, tap "Settings".
- In the left hand window pane, tap "Hardware".
- In the main window pane, tap "Add Printer" in the section named "Receipt printers".
- In the window pane named "Add a printer", tap the listing under "Connected printers" named "TM-m30II-H Bluetooth/USB".
- In the window pane named "Add a printer", tap "Next".
- You can change the name of the receipt printer if you would like.
- In the window pane named "Your printer is connected", tap "Test print" to print a small test chit from the receipt printer.
- in the window pane named "Your printer is connected", tap "Finish".
- The Epson TM-M30II-H receipt printer is now ready to print to in the Lightspeed Retail X Series app via USB.
